Overeating Causes Weight Gain. But There Can Be Other Causes
Too.
Most weight gain is usually caused by overeating. Overeating can be very subtle – you can gain weight
from eating until your stomach is full at every meal or snack.
The full feeling indicates that you’ve overeaten. When your
stomach feels comfortable after a meal means you’ve eaten
enough, but not too much.
The following conditions can also
cause you to overeat. They aren’t excuses because they can be
changed, corrected, or adjusted so that you can maintain a
healthy weight.
Nutritional situations that can cause
weight gain:
- Bingeing
- Eating lots of high glycemic foods,
such as white and fluffy starches. Remember that “White and
fluffy makes you puffy”
- Out-of-balance diet, for example,
eating inadequate amounts of fat, carbohydrates, or protein
- Not eating enough fiber
- Not eating enough 5-10 servings
vegetables and fruit daily
- Drinking shakes as a substitute for
meals
Lifestyle causes of weight gain:
- Drinking sodas andiet sodas
- Not getting enough sleep
- Inactivity, being sedentary, not
enough exercise. Recommended: one hour daily
- High stress levels
- Using eating as a way to deal with
difficult emotions
- Skipping meals
- Habitually eating more food than your
body needs
- Dieting often and extensively
Health conditions and situations that can
cause weight gain:
- Diabetes
- Insulin-dependent diabetes
- Thyroid disorders
- Hormonal imbalances
- Some psychotropic medications
- Candida overgrowth syndrome
