Banish the Blues and Lose Weight Too
Exercise is the best and most available remedy for low
moods, anxiety, and depression. Try this for yourself. The
next time you feel low and especially if you want to soothe
the blues with food, do exercise instead.
Go out and walk, jog, or run for 20 minutes. Rev up your
stationary bike and cycle for 20 minutes. Or plug in an
exercise video and work along with the instructor. Break a
sweat, or get glowing.
The Runner's High
You'll feel better. here's why. When you elevate your
heart rate for 20 minutes to the point of sweating, your
body releases endorphins, which are your body's own "feel
good" chemicals. You've heard of the runner's high, but it
doesn't take miles and miles of pounding the pavement to
feel that good. The runner's high is the physical experience
of high levels of endorphins.
Exercise also lowers your body's levels of insulin, which
helps you lose weight and keep it off.
Because of the marvelous benefits from exercise, more and
more health care practitioners advise their clients to
exercise regularly, or as I like to say, Exercise Lavishly.
